How I met the love of my life…… In 2007 I found out I would be deploying to Iraq (for the second time) so many emotions ran through my head. I knew that I signed up for this and I was prepared for it but I would never have enough preparation to be away from my family, friends and my beautiful son who was 2 at the time ( I was a single mother) during our training for the deployment I played sports on our free time to keep myself busy that is where I met Marcus who loved basketball. He was in my unit and became a great friend so it felt good to know that I would have a great friend to accompany me for this year that would feel like an eternity. Being in Iraq is like being in jail you eat at set times you can’t go anywhere so the only fun thing to do was go to the gym and work out. Marcus and I did everything together and he was supportive during the whole year. He always listened when I needed to speak and he always provided a shoulder to cry on when I became overwhelmed. I fell in love with him during that year and once we came home we continued to be inseparable. 4 years later we were married and we had a beautiful baby boy. I found my best friend and a wonderful husband and father to my children. Basically I can say we found love in a hopeless place and I would never change that for anything in this world.
That is a great story! Thanks for sharing and thank you and your husband for your service!
Anastasia you look absolutely gorgeous on your live chat,,
Great story Geri! A modern day romance. May your life be filled with Venti happiness. Thanks also on behalf of Anastassia.
My husband and I met at a Sushi/Disco place. He was eating sushi with his friends and I was dancing on the next room! When he was done eating, he went to the disco area and made his way through the bar, where I was with my girlfriend. He asked me to dance. When he realized I spoke Spanish, he attempted to talk to me in his broken Spanish. We danced more. His friends left to go to another bar and he decided to stay with me, even though, his ride was leaving. He ended up walking home that night. I didn’t give him my phone # but he gave me his. Few days later I called him and after talking on the phone for two hours I gave him my phone #. We started dating from that point on and this Feburary 9th will be 21 years since we got married!
Super sweet! Your own version of Sushi Samba! Thanks for sharing Silvia and congratulations to you both! May the good times continue to roll (pardon the sushi reference).
I met my partner is a way I would have never expected. I was dating his cousin and he and his cousin drove up to my house and his cousin said Maria, I want you to meet my cousin Phil. Phil tells me that at that point he looked at me and said to himself ; “This is the woman I will spend the rest of my life with”. Phil and I developed a friendship as I dated his cousin and when I broke up with his cousin I remember being sad about the thought of never seeing Phil again, even though we were just friends. When he got the nerve up to call me and ask me on a date about 6 months after I broke up with his cousin I told him “I’m done with men!”…..but I’d love to go to dinner with you just as friends. He probably didn’t kinow what to say, and he said OK. My kids laughed when I got dressed for our “Friends dinner” as I wore a dress, heels, the whole nine yards; yet I insisted that I was just meeting a friend. As I sat there at dinner with this man who I only thought of as a friend I realized that I had fallen in love with him without even knowing it. As he said goodbye to me, as a perfect gentleman that he is, I said “where are you going, it’s early”!
We have been together since that date 5 years ago. Our love has grown deeper over time and we both say we waited all this time to finally find our Soulmate and we couldn’t have predicted it would be in such an unusual way!
Awesome story Maria! We are glad your love life has been “Philled” with happiness! Congratulations to you both, we hope family get-togethers aren’t awkward now.
After being Married 22 years I got divorced. I moved out into my brothers house in the neighborhood where I grew up. After a few weeks I was getting in my car when a man rode by on a bicycle. I thought wow not bad then I realized I knew him. I called out his name sure enough it was him. We sat there and talked for hours. We have known each other since kindergarten. We dated on and off between 1983 & 1985. But he was a cop and I didn’t want to be with a cop. I met my husband and moved on. He never married. 25 years later we are brought back together for a ride of a lifetime. I am never getting off this ride. Never believed in soulmates until now. Its been 3 years and we are getting married this summer.
Wonderful story, I hope the ride goes the intended speed limit. Great story-thanks for sharing!
