Just For Men

Men are increasingly becoming more interested in cosmetic surgery.  What was once taboo, is now commonplace for a man to come in for cosmetic enhancement.  Although many of the procedures men request can be located in other sections of our site, below are procedures more common in our male patients.

Facial implants
Numerous studies have shown that heterosexual women (and homosexual men) prefer faces with masculine traits.  Such features include prominent and broad cheekbones a relatively longer lower face, developed brows, and chiseled jawlines.  Dr. Blyer can assess your face and create more sculpted chiseled features.  This can be done with a fat transfer, fillers, or something more permanent like facial implants.  Dr. Blyer is an renowned expert in facial implants and has written medical text books on the subject.

Forehead reduction/shaving

My creating well hidden incisions in the hairline, Dr. Blyer can reduce and resculpt your forehead.  This can be dramatic for those who have severe “frontal bossing” or protrusion of the bones above your brows.  Depending on the thickness of bone, this procedure can be relatively simple or very complicated.  Dr. Blyer invented a new surgical technique for complicated forehead reductions that has gained tremendous excited around the medical community.  The results are outstanding and the complications that can be high with this type of surgery are minimal.

Hair transplantation

As early as one's late teens or early 20s, hair loss (alopecia) is a common problem that can be very distressing.  It often begins with a receding hair line or thinning in the crown and can worsen over time, resulting in complete or partial baldness.  Shedding some hair each day is normal, but if you notice you're suddenly losing significant amounts of hair or missing patches of hair on your scalp, it may be time to talk to consider a hair transplant.  Hair trasnplantation is the most common cosmetic procedure for men.

Hair transplants are performed under local anesthesia in the office and is essentially painless. Immediately after, you will not need any dressing or bandages. The hair can be washed immediately. Pinpoint crusts which are barely noticeable cover the grafts for 7-10 days, and then disappear.  Most people return to work the next day. Strenuous activity can be resumed in 3 days.  After a short resting phase of three to four months, the hair begins to grow at a rate of half inch per month, and continues to grow forever.

This is variable but usually 1000 - 2000 grafts per session.  Generally 1 - 2 sessions are recommended to do an entire frontal area or the bald spot on top of the head. This can be done in 4 - 8 months or over a longer period of time depending on the patient's preference.

Laser hair removal

Laser hair removal at CAMEO Surgery center is not only effective but virtually painless.  Shoulders, back, and chest are the most common areas treated on our male patients.  Get rid of that unwanted hair forever.  Inquire about our special packages.

Gynecomastia

Male breast tissue can be very distressing.  Whether it is the result of massive weight gain or loss, medications, or genetics, this can be addressed.  There are some situations where fat removal is the solution and other times where glandular tissue or skin must be removed as well.  This is a common problem that is easily treatable.

Liposuction/liposculpture

As we get older, it becomes more difficult to lose that little area of fat around the lower belly or love handles.  Liposuction is still the best surigical solution to target areas like this.  It is becomng increasingly popular with fine tipped cannulas to sculpt in certain areas to accenuate the "6 pack", also called "abdominal etching".

Abdominoplasty

After significant weight loss, many times the redundant skin that remains is troublesome.  Minimal areas can be ignored or treated with Skin Tyte, but when that skin is excessive an abdominoplasty is performed.  Incisons for the abdominoplasty are typically made low, and are inconspicuous below the underwear band.  The transformation of one's body is remarkable.  Oftenimes liposuction is performed at the same time to enhance your results.

Loose the beer belly

Not all fat is amenable to liposuction.  No one wants to hear "diet and excersise" as the answer, but in some cases this is all that can be done.  Men with that firm belly are often not candidates for liposuction.  This is also the most dangerous area to carry fat for your cardiac health (health of your heart).  This type of fat is called visceral fat and surround your organs.  The HCG diet is a diet that works with 100% success to help those wanted to shed those unwanted pounds.  Although HCG (human chorionic gonadatropin) is a hormone produced primarily in women (small amounts are produced in men), the diet works well in men also.  For more information please see http://www.justmelt.com or http://www.hcgtruediet.com

Male to female (facial feminization procedures)
Dr. Blyer’s understanding of the face is second to none.  For those undergoing transition procedures, there are numerous facial traits that can destroy one’s chance at facial femininity.  Dr. Blyer has vast experience in this field, has written articles and book chapters on the topic of facial resculpting, and has lectured worldwide on new techniques.

Orthognathic surgery

Jaw surgery is probably the most life changing surgery we perform in cosmetic enhancement surgeries.

Corrective jaw surgery repositions misaligned jaws. This not only improves facial appearance, but also ensures that teeth meet correctly and function properly.  The affect of surgically moving the jaws will have an impact on the nose, cheek bones, neck line, and chin.  People with "Jay Leno chins" or recessive jaw lines, or very gummy smiles are often candidates for this type of surgery.

Testicle lift

A man’s testicles follow a very similar progression to that of a woman’s breasts.  Gravity induced changes, the daily grind, and a loss of elasticity of skin causes the testicle sack to descend below the length we were once accustomed to.  This is often very displeasing to the eye for the patient and for their lover.  It can also be quite uncomfortable.  Men who have elongated scrotums complain that their testicles touch the toilet water when they sit.  They often feel cumbersome in their clothes.  Dr. Blyer and Mr. Concepcion designed the "scrotalpexy" procedure to address this.  The procedure is quick and painless.  Under light sedation, an well hidden, well designed incision removes the redundant skin and lifts the testicle sack to a more youthful position.
