The lips

Angelina Jolle, Scarlet Johansson, Julia Roberts, Eva Mendes, and Jessica Alba have all helped bring lips into the public eye, more than ever before. Soft, natural, plump, full, rolled out lips have become synonymous with a young sexy look.
There is no one simple answer for every lip, and this has become an area of great interest and expertise to me. I have lectured around the country on procedures to create the youthful lip. Enhancement of the lip is truly an art.
Patients interested in lip augmentation range from the young patient interested in more voluminous modelesque lips, to the older patient looking for a more youthful pouty lip.
There are predictable changes in the aged lip that can easily be corrected.
These include:

As seen above
1. Loss of lip volume (most notably in the central area)
2. Loss of definition of the “lip stick” line
3. Vertical wrinkles of the lip
4. Loss of definition of philtral columns and Cupid’s bow
5. Loss of pout
6. Lengthening of the lip (resulting in less visibility of teeth)
Perma Facial Implant™
This product is an excellent option for lip augmentation. Particularly in a patient who already tried a filler and likes the way it looks. Lip implants in some circles have fallen out of favor because of a marred history of getting hard, creating a tethered appearance when smiling, and even extruding through the lip. This implant is not anything like its predecessors. The implant is tapered and shaped like a lip. It is made from a safe (non-leakable) silicone. The results are natural. The procedure is quick and painless. The results are forever. If you change your mind about the look you desire at a later date and want this implant removed, it is simple and non-deforming to do so. No one in the Northeast has placed more Perma Facial Implants™ than Dr. Blyer. He was the pioneer in bringing this product to New York and has a tremendous pool of patients who love it.
Lip Lift
Lip lengthening that occurs with age is a product of the weakening of facial attachments that support the upper lip, in conjunction with atrophy of the skin and muscle surrounding the lip.
This can result in a decrease in the display of the front teeth, giving the appearance of an older, unhappy look. The most appropriate procedure to correct this is a lip lift. Often patients are mistakenly treated by doctors with a filler. Under the nasal sill, a small area of tissue should be removed and the lip is lifted to the proper position. The incisions are well camouflaged under the nose and a youthful look is restored. This procedure can be performed with local anesthesia with or without twilight sedation.
Lip injectibles
The most common treatements in lip enhancement is the injection of hyaluronic acid fillers, namely Juvederm®, Restylane®, Perlane®, or Belotero Balance®. For more information about lip injections, pleaes check out the injectible section of this site.
As we remember from Chemistry 101, liquid takes the shape of its container. These fillers are liquid, and injecting a filler in an inappropriate candidate will make for an unnatural look. We have all seen this in patients walking down the street, something we call the “Daffy Duck” look. In these patients a lip implant may be a better option.
